ARTICLE: A Scumbag in the Old West, 1869

It’s been a while since I did one of these, but here’s another one of my Americana posts and this time, we’re going to Arkansas. Well, we’ll be constantly crossing back and forth into Texas to evade the law, too. Last Christmas lovely Trev presented me with a book that might be good Substack fodder. Published in 1961, Gunfighters of the Old West is a compilation of stories about notable characters shooting and philandering their way around America in the 19th Century. Today, I’ve picked one at random, so buckle up for the shameful individual, murderer of lots of people, that was Cullen Montgomery Baker; and his own muddled, sticky end…
