A few weeks ago I was in an antique map shop with lovely Doug, and on discovering a box full of French magazine covers from the late 19th Century we ended up in fits of childish giggles, because every single one appeared to display some random act of extreme violence. We decided we’d get one, and that I would go away and investigate in French newspaper archives and bound off down the rabbit hole to see where it took us. Below is our batsh*t illustration.
