When Case Yellow, the German invasion of Belgium began in 1940, within a few days, the town of Louvain (Leuven) found itself on the British front line. This photo is reportedly from 15th May and shows men of the BEF manning a gun emplacement between two ruined buildings. The Germans assaulted the town from 14th to 16th, when the British pulled back to the Senne.
