PHOTO ARTICLE: Inside the Maginot Line
I’m fully aware that a number of my subscribers are unashamed concrete perverts. To that end, I thought I’d share a banging visit this week that we paid to Villy-La Ferté as part of our Istoria “Three Wars in the Ardennes” tour. There’s enough here for you to have a little walk around from the comfort of your chair, without climbing all of these stairs…
The fort is the only one in the Maginot Line that went down in flames, as a result of a brutal attack coming from the horizon in the photo below, the entire garrison of at least 135 men was killed. The fort is run by a passionate organisation, who’ve taken pains to come up with that number, and keep the fort in order, and give tours, and more (you’ll see).
I had a lot of fun inside with my camera, and so here you go…
Here you can see where the Germans slapped a square TNT charge on the outside of a gun position.
